Rain ruins charity sale

ORGANISERS of this year’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution car boot sale in Henley say it was badly hit by heavy rain.

The sale took place at Henley Rugby Club on Sunday but only 20 sellers turned up — about a tenth of the usual number — due to the weather and there were very few buyers.

Norman Daniells, chairman of the Henley branch of the RNLI, said: “It was a bit of a disaster with the weather — we couldn’t have picked a worse day.

“We had 20 boots there instead of our usual 200 and we haven’t finalised the money yet but after donations we will be lucky to break even. Normally the field is two-thirds full will car boots and the rest is overflow parking from the rugby club but it was quite empty this year.

“Visitor numbers were also well down. We had only a handful of people come down because nobody wants to walk around in the rain.
