Dad's get on their bikes for pre-school

A CYCLE ride and auction raised more than £5,000 for a pre-school.

Saturday’s event was called the Dads’ Day Out Bike Ride and featured more than 20 men who are fathers, grandfathers and uncles of children at Krakatoa Pre-School in Lewknor or their friends.

The cyclists rode 19 miles from the Leathern Bottle pub in the village and back via Watlington, Cuxham, Stoke Talmage, Adwell, Postcombe, Sydenham and Chinnor. Organiser James Mitchell-Smith said: “I was absolutely blown away by the number of people that participated. Everyone was keen to get details of next year’s ride.”

In the evening an auction was held at the pub with lots including a handbag belonging to supermodel Claudia Schiffer, a two-week stay in a holiday home in Barbados and weekend tickets to the BMW PGA Golf Championships at Wentworth in May next year.

Mr Mitchell-Smith, whose son Robert left the pre-school last year, said it was an “integral” part of the village but relied heavily on fund-raising to stay open.

The ride was sponsored by EducationLine Recruitment, where Mr Mitchell-Smith is a director, and the company supplied branded cycling shirts.
