AMERICAN author James Patterson has donated £2,000 to a Henley bookshop.
The thriller writer, best known for his Alex Cross series, chose the Bell Bookshop in Bell Street as one of 73 shops in the country to receive a grant to encourage children to read.
Manager Hilary Redhead applied for the grant in July, putting together a proposal which included pictures of the children’s section and information about the shop’s history.
Last week, she learned the application had been successful and now plans to use the money to improve the children’s department.
Ms Redhead, 48, who lives above the shop, said: “He has done the same thing in America previously.
