Pupils help to build new facilities

PUPILS from Reading Blue Coat School have helped build new facilities for schoolchildren in Ghana.

A group of 15, along with teachers Will Mitchell and Lizzie Burrowes, travelled to their partner school - Ankwanda Government School - during the summer holidays.

It was Blue Coat’s second visit to the school and project work this year included the building of a new canteen and the refurbishment of three classrooms.

The classrooms were levelled and floored and then painted and finished with murals to enhance the learning environment.

In order to provide the walls, roof and associated furniture for a new canteen, the students helped local workers to buy and treat vast amounts of bamboo.
