Girls run 5km for schools charity

THREE pupils at Sonning Common Primary School took part in a sponsored run.

Emma Dixon, nine, Tabitha Lusted, eight, and Lally Williams, nine, raised £275 for the Send My Friend to School charity, which promotes the right to education.

They each ran 40 laps around Albert Road park in Caversham, a distance of about 5km.

The girls completed the final lap while performing a “funky chicken” dance. They said: “We did this because we had an assembly about the people who don’t get to go to school in Zambia and the people who don’t get a proper education because of the lack of teachers and supplies.”

Mary Dixon, Emma’s mother, said she was proud of the girls, adding: “They thought about the event and organised it all by themselves. We thought it showed incredible maturity and concern for others less fortunate than themselves, not to mention the actual effort involved in running that far on eight- and nine-year-old legs.”
