THIS is what Hambleden?s new £211,000 sports pavilion will look like.

It will replace the old wooden structure that served local football, tennis and cricket clubs for 40 years at The Dene.

The pre-fabricated building will have double-glazed softwood windows, under-floor heating and insulated walls to make it energy efficient.

Hambleden Sports and Social Club contributed a third of the cost and secured a £50,000 grant from Sport England and £33,000 from waste contractor Biffa via the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. Donations have also come from residents and Hambleden Parish Council while financier Urs Schwarzenbach, who owns almost all the properties in the village, contributed a quarter of the cost.

The official opening will be carried out by Mr Schwarzenbach on June 8. The day will start at 10.30am with free coaching clinics for tennis, football and cricket for anyone who turns up.

The Dene is a five-acre sports ground which was bequeathed to the club in 1959 by Lord and Lady Hambleden and their family for the specific enjoyment of sport in the Hambleden valley.
