THE deadline for nominations for this year’s Sue Ryder Women of Achievement Awards has been extended.

They will now close on August 23, a week later than originally announced.

So far, five women from Henley have been put forward but organisers say they expect more nominations.

The awards, now in their seventh year, recognise inspirational women from Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

Ten awards will be presented in five categories, including business, community and sport. They include teacher of the year, young achiever of the year and lifetime achiever.

This year’s awards were launched by Olympic rowing gold medallist Katherine Grainger, who won sportswoman of the year last year. They will be presented at a ceremony at the Millennium Madejski Hotel in Reading on October 17.

The awards are sponsored by Higgs Group, publishers of the Henley Standard, Invesco Perpetual, Charlton House and Reading 107.
