From shop to seaside

STAFF at Sonning Common Co-op gave their customers a smile by turning up to work in beachwear for charity.

They wore brightly coloured shorts and T-shirts, flower necklaces and sunglasses and had props including beach balls, an inflatable dolphin called Colin and a blow-up palm tree.

Last Friday’s “beach party” at the Wood Lane store was to mark the Co-op’s partnership with the Carers Trust, its charity of the year, for which donation tins are in the shop.

Lindsey Cramer, who has worked at the store for 11 years, said: “Everyone said that we looked cool.” Colleague Lisa Butler, 19, said customers had enjoyed being cheered up.

The Co-op hopes to raise £5 million for the trust, which provides young carers with residential breaks.

Store manager Ben Whitter said: “We are determined to keep the fund-raising momentum going and are planning more events.”
