Why I wear a poppy

I WEAR my poppy because of my gratitude for those who risked and sacrificed so much for our freedom.

I find it impossible to imagine what trench warfare was really like and suspect that I would be completely unable to deal with any great horror, let alone horror on that scale — yet so many did, without thought for themselves.

I hope fervently that future generations in this country will never have to live through again what this country went through in the two world wars.
