Charities net the proceeds from Fish’s festive sale

A SALE in Sonning Common village hall raised £2,175 for charities.

A SALE in Sonning Common village hall raised £2,175 for charities.

It was organised by the Fish Volunteer Centre, which raised £565 from selling gifts and Christmas cards, refreshments and raffle tickets.

Other charities that took part included the Berkshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, the Kidmore End branch of the Royal British Legion, Christian Community Action, Dogs Trust, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Sue Ryder, Thames Valley Animal Rescue, the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust and the Ways and Means Trust.

Fred Nickson, chairman of the centre, said: “All the charities did rather well, including ourselves.

“We’ve done this for about 10 years and it gets better every year. People like to come and buy different things. For the first time this year we had our own stall with donated items and jewellery. There were scores of people there and everyone had a good time.”

Fish, which provides a transport service for the needy, put its new minibus on display outside the hall.
