Students raise £650 with Santa fun run

A SANTA fun run in Woodcote raised at least £650 for Langtree School, writes James Burton.

A SANTA fun run in Woodcote raised at least £650 for Langtree School, writes James Burton.

Fifty-four adults and about 35 children took part in races that started and finished at the school.

The adults, including headteacher Rick Holroyd, ran a 5km route on footpaths around the village and were led home by Mark Homer, of South Stoke Road, Woodcote, who finished in 22 minutes and 35 seconds.

Mr Homer’s prize was £25 worth of John Lewis vouchers.

The 1km children’s race was won by Oliver Hazell, 10, from Purley, who was awarded a Lego toy.

The children wore costumes including Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer and a group of toddlers from the Early Days Pre-School in Ipsden were dressed as elves.

The event was organised by a group of year 10 business studies students at Langtree and the proceeds will go towards the school’s £200,000 appeal for a floodlit artificial pitch.

Teacher Emma Morel said: “For a first attempt it went pretty well. We expected 50 adults and to raise about £500 so we’re very pleased to have exceeded our targets.

“I think the students were a bit shocked at how much work they had to put in but the response was generally positive. We had a lot of people asking whether we will do it again next year.”

The results of the adult races were as follows: 1 Mark Homer 22.35; 2 George Clark 23:52; 3 Tim Bland 23:28; 4 Ray Lane 24:56; 5 Andrew Hazell 25:08; 6 Aidan Coleman 25:13; 7 Alex Hallett 25:47; 8 Ralph Drury 26:14; 9 John Hallett 26:24; 10 Jack Hambridge 26:41; 11 James Read 26:43; 12 Afonso Harby-Guincho 26:45; 13 Jacob Holroyd 26:52; 14 Lewis Botting 26:57; 15 Louise Callaway 27:12; 16 Tim Morel 27:22; 17 Russell Hallett 27:29; 18 Jana Scholey 27:30; 19 Jane Handley 27:51; 20 Andy Bennett 28:09; 21 Kathy Bennett 28:49; 22 Rick Holroyd 30:08; 23 Stefan Gordon 31:50; 24 Sarah Roberts 32:14; 25 Robert Scholey 32:44; 26 Adam Wood 32:45; 27 Carla van Heerden 33:11; 28 Tom Gray 33:19; 29 Claire Rogers 33:23; 30 Liz Hinton 33:27; 31 Patrick Baker 34:25; 32 James Mottram 34:38; 33 Emily Shepherd 34:54; 34 Sophie Snowden 35:19; 35 Penny Snowden 35:21; 36 Julie Drury 35:22; 37 Phoebe Snowden 35:40; 38 Maia Harby-Guincho 35:50; 39 Michaela Driscoll 35:51; 40 Emily Whatmore 35:58; 41 Liz Packer 36:01; 42 Helen Clark 36:02; 43 Kathy Driscoll 36:37; 44 Fay Harby-Guincho 36:37; 45 Gemma Clark 37:17; 46 Hazel Drury 37:44; 47 Charlotte Packer 37:44; 48 Megan Thatcher 38:13; 49 Annette Thatcher 38:13; 50 Laura Callaway 40:16; 51 Sam Parker 40:16.
