Volunteer centre appoints new chairman

BOB AUSTEN has been appointed chairman of Twyford, Wargrave and District Volunteer Centre.

BOB AUSTEN has been appointed chairman of Twyford, Wargrave and District Volunteer Centre.

Mr Austen, of Dunnock Way, Wargrave, is already chairman of Wargrave Girls’ FC and helps organise fund-raising for St Mary’s Church’s 21st Century project.

The volunteer centre was set up to provide transport for elderly people who need lifts to hospital or doctors appointments. Volunteer drivers use their own cars but are paid for their mileage.

Mr Austen said: “If you can spare a little time once a week, once a fortnight or whenever to drive an elderly person to a medical appointment, your help would be deeply appreciated.

“The more drivers we have, the more folks we can help.

“This opportunity would ideally suit retired people or indeed anyone who has some spare time and would like to help their community in some way but does not necessarily want to be committed to a set day or days each week.”
