Volunteers needed to marshal On Your Bike

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help marshal this year’s On Your Bike event in Sonning Common.

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help marshal this year’s On Your Bike event in Sonning Common.

The charity ride, which is aimed at families, will take place on Sunday, April 26, starting at the village primary school at 10.30am.

Richard Dixon, who organises the team of marshals and 4x4 support vehicles, said: “Marshaling is great fun.

“It’s not just about making sure the riders stay safe and on the right route, you also play a huge role in cheering up any riders who may be  flagging. We can promise you a packed lunch and lots of camaraderie. And we’ve got some giant foam fingers to help you point the riders in the right direction!”

The event, which is now in its ninth year, will be in aid of the school and the Royal Berkshire Hospital Charity, which is raising money for an orthopaedic unit.

Since the event started in 2007 it has raised more than £25,000 for various charities.

Cyclists can choose to ride six, 12 or 20 miles. For children who are not yet confident enough to cycle on roads there is a playground cycle ride.

Entry is £5 before the event or £7 on the day. The playground cycle costs £2.

Anyone who registers to take part before April 12 will have a chance of winning a bike from AW Cycles in Caversham.
