Tandem couple ride again

A COUPLE from Henley are to take part in a sponsored tandem bicycle ride from Henley

A COUPLE from Henley are to take part in a sponsored tandem bicycle ride from Henley to the outskirts of London and back.

Phil and Louisa Mead–Stubbington, of Adwell Square, will set off on Sunday morning and follow the A308 to Kempton Park racecourse in Sunbury.

They will then take part in a ride to Reading organised by the British Heart Foundation, for which they hope to raise at least £300. After crossing the finish line on Christchurch Meadows in Caversham, they will cycle home.

They will cycle almost 77 miles in total and expect the ride to take about 10 hours.

The couple took part in their first tandem challenge last year, when they cycled 54 miles from London to Brighton for the BHF alongside 30,000 or so other cyclists.

Mrs Mead–Stubbington had never cycled before and had to be taught by her husband.

The couple now ride together regularly and travel more than 50 miles in a day,

Mr Mead–Stubbington said: “I don’t think we’ll have problems with our legs getting tired â?? the hardest thing will probably be the ache in our backsides after all that time in the saddle!

“We’ve been to Newbury and back in one day and have done shorter round trips towards London and back so we should be fine. We’re pretty relaxed about it. Louisa has just taken part in a 10km run so she’s in good shape. She’s even more enthusiastic about it than me.”

The couple have raised just over £200 so far.
