CUSTOMERS at the builders merchants Gibbs & Dandy in Reading Road, Henley, will be offered information

CUSTOMERS at the builders merchants Gibbs & Dandy in Reading Road, Henley, will be offered information about skin cancer and Macmillan Cancer Support during Sun Awareness Week, starting on Monday.

Skin cancer (malignant melanoma) is the fifth most common cancer in the UK and men, particularly those who work outdoors, are at even greater risk of developing the disease.

A Macmillan spokesman said: “It is a shocking fact that within a five-mile radius of this store up to 10 men are living with skin cancer, making this campaign even more vital. With a largely male workforce and a predominantly male supplier and customer base, Gibbs & Dandy is perfectly placed to support Macmillan in this campaign and help raise awareness among this hard-to-reach audience.”

Macmillan skin cancer clinical nurse specialist Carol Goodman said: “Skin cancer is often overlooked in comparison to other cancers but the numbers of people being diagnosed have risen fivefold since the Seventies.”
