ABOUT 400 people attended an evening dinner dance on Peppard Common.

The black tie event had a theme of “at the movies” and guests were invited to wear fancy dress. Music was provided by The Decades.

It was the climax of a weekend of events hosted by Peppard Revels that included a community barbecue and disco and an ecumenical church service with Judy French, the Archdeacon of Dorchester.

Geoff Pitcher, chairman of Peppard Revels, said: “We said that people could dress up as a character from a movie or decorate their own tables in a way they wanted and a lot did.” His own table featured characters from

Titanic
and he was dressed as an admiral.

Mr Pitcher said the band went down well. “Everyone was dancing as soon as they started playing,” he said. “They got all ages on the dancefloor, from 20 to 80.”

The Peppard Revels hope to make a small profit from the weekend which will be donated to local causes such as Peppard War Memorial Hall and the Fish volunteer centre in Sonning Common.

Mr Pitcher added: “My thanks to all the volunteers who helped to make this such a successful weekend. We have had some fabulous feedback.”
