Home Secretary joins village fete

HOME Secretary Theresa May gave out the raffle prizes at Charvil village fete.

HOME Secretary Theresa May gave out the raffle prizes at Charvil village fete.

The Maidenhead MP spent the afternoon at the circus-themed event in Park Lane, which was attended by hundreds of people.

Attractions included stalls, games and a demonstration from a circus skills performer. A train ferried children around the field and Daleks sprayed people with water.

One of the raffle prizes was a bottle of whisky, which was won by village rector Alison Waters, who had dressed in a clown?s costume.

As Mrs May handed her the prize, she said: ?I?m not sure if I should be giving whisky to a clergyperson, especially one dressed as a clown!?

The fete raised about £3,000 for local charities. Rev Waters, who is on the fete?s organising committee, said: ?We thought it was an excellent day and the turnout was very good. We are always delighted to have Theresa May come along.

She has been a faithful supporter of the fete and always helps out with the raffle so we were very glad to have her.?
