Firefighters put out bin fire during fund raising

FIREFIGHTERS had to empty their charity collection buckets to put out a litter bin fire in Henley

FIREFIGHTERS had to empty their charity collection buckets to put out a litter bin fire in Henley.

They were collecting money from regatta-goers in the town centre on Saturday evening when they were called into action.

A cigarette had been thrown in the bin near Red Lion Lawn, which had started to smoke, so the firefighters emptied their buckets of money and filled them with water to put out the fire.

The six members of the crew raised almost £1,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity during five hours of collecting by Henley Bridge.

Henley station manger Marcus Reay said: "We're over the moon to raise as much as we did - it's even better than last year? s total.

"We would like to thank all the generous local people as well those visiting for the regatta.?
