Store staff bake cakes and ride bikes for Parkinson’s UK

STAFF at the Co-operative store in Sonning Common are fund-raising for Parkinson’s UK.

STAFF at the Co-operative store in Sonning Common are fund-raising for Parkinson’s UK.

They have already raised £1,000, including £350 that came from a cake sale held in the shop foyer.

Bradley Lawrence, 18, of Wood Lane, and store manager Paul Wilson, 27, from Woodley, are to take part in a charity cycle ride. The pair will leave the store at 7am on Monday, August 24 and ride 55 miles to Swindon.

They are fund-raising in memory of Mr Wilson’s grandfather Richard Willis-Dixon, who suffered from the disease. Mr Wilson said: “He suffered with it for a long time and Parkinson’s UK really supported him, so I wanted to support them. They help a lot of people.”

The pair have been training together on their mountain bikes once a week and have completed practise rides from the store to Henley, Thatcham and Burghfield.

Mr Lawrence said: “The preparation is going really well so I’m looking forward to the ride itself. I have never done anything like this before.”

Mr Wilson added: “Hopefully it shouldn’t be too much of a problem getting there.”
