AN afternoon tea will be held in Sonning Common to raise money for a cancer charity.

Jade Chandler, 24, has organised the event in memory of her grandfather Jerry McCarthy, from Harpsden, who died from cancer two years ago.

The event, which in is aid of Macmillan cancer support and Cancer Research UK, will be held at St Michael’s Church hall in Peppard Road on September 19 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

Miss Chandler, from Caversham, said Mr McCarthy made it clear before he died that he wanted to raise money for Macmillan, who had helped after his  diagnosis, and asked for donations instead of flowers at his funeral.

She added: “I want to give something back to them.”
