TWO members of staff at the Co-op in Sonning Common completed a charity cycle ride in torrential rain.

Bradley Lawrence, 18, of Wood Lane, and store manager Paul Wilson, 27, from Woodley, rode 55 miles from the shop to Swindon on Monday.

Despite the rain, they finished in six hours and 10 minutes.

Staff at the store in Wood Lane are fund-raising for Parkinson’s UK in memory of Mr Wilson’s grandfather Richard Willis-Dixon, who suffered from the disease. Mr Wilson said: “We probably couldn’t have picked a worst day to do it.

“We had hoped to finish in about five hours but the rain really slowed us down.

“We didn’t have any mishaps other than the selfie stick we were going to use for pictures wasn’t working.

“The knees are a bit sore but apart from that we feel pretty good.”

The men originally had a fund-raising target of £1,000 but are now hopeful of making twice that amount.
