MORE than £2,500 was raised for charities and good causes by people charged for parking during this year’s Henley Royal Regatta.

Henley Lions Club was given permission by the town council to use part of the grassed area along Fair Mile for car parking during the five-day event.

A total of 254 drivers used the service, compared with 211 last year.

Lions club treasurer Robin Swift wrote a letter of thanks to the council, saying: "These funds will be used to support local charities, organisations and some individuals.

"We hope that we will be permitted to repeat this fund-raising event next year."
