A WOMAN has completed a sponsored tandem skydive in aid of Benson Youth Club.

Tanya Ellis, who is Benson Parish Council’s halls manager, jumped from 10,000ft with Blue Skies of Wanborough, near Swindon.

She raised more than £1,000 towards new equipment for the club. She was sponsored by Grundon, which paid all her costs.

Mrs Ellis, 38, said she had enjoyed Sunday’s parachute jump but was glad that it was over as she is scared of heights.

She was greeted on the ground by members of her family, including husband Andrew, daughter Reiah, 20, and sons Callum, 15, and Leighton, five, along with youth club leader Geoff Stock, volunteer Elizabeth Lemaire and parish clerk Pete Eldridge.

Mrs Ellis, who lives in Wallingford, said: “I was absolutely petrified. To be honest the whole time I was going up I was more worried about the chap sitting next to me because he wasn’t looking too good!

“It was just really, really scary and I was scared up until the point when the parachute opened and I realised I wasn’t going to die.”
