Former MP joins charity dinner

Former MP Ann Widdecombe was guest speaker at a lunch at Phyllis Court Club in Henley attended by about 80 people.

Former MP Ann Widdecombe was guest speaker at a lunch at Phyllis Court Club in Henley attended by about 80 people.

The event raised about £100 for Calibre, a charity which helps people with sight problems or who have difficulty reading.

Miss Widdecombe talked abot her time in Westminster before she retired from politics in 2010 to become a novelist. She then answered questions from the floor. She also signed copies of her book, including her 2013 autobiography Strictly Ann.

The event was organised by the Phyllis Court Club book group?s organising committee.

Jenny Lacey, a member of the committee, said: ?We wanted to raise money for a good cause and Calibre makes sense because we?re a book group. Some members who came to the lunch use their service.? Left to right, Rea Costly, Wendy Bushnell, Ann Widdecombe, Jenny Lacey and Vivienne Laurie.
