Hundreds disappointed after fireworks glitch

HUNDREDS of visitors to a firework display went home disappointed after a technical glitch meant the show didn?t go ahead.

Crowds waited for 45 minutes at last night?s (Saturday?s) 42nd annual Henley Round Table event at Swiss Farm, off Marlow Road.

Organisers tried in vain to solve the problem but were eventually forced to tell the crowd the 20-minute display had been cancelled. There were boos from the audience, which contained many children.

The Henley Round Table said it was unable to offer refunds but will stage next year?s event for free for those who attended last night.

John Pitcher, from Skyburst ? The Firework Company which was in charge of the display, told the Henley Standard the problem was with the computer firing system.

Tickets to the event had cost £6 for adults, and £4 for children and seniors. There was a £1 discount if they were bought in advance.

Mr Pitcher and Henley Round Table chairman George Thomas apologised to the crowd.

A statement of the group?s Facebook page said: ?The volunteers of Henley Round Table are deeply disappointed and sorry that the firework display did not happen.

?Hours and hours go into the organisation on a voluntary basis and profits are for local charities. The event has been running for 42 years and this has never happened before. Unfortunately, we were let down by the computer firing system.

?Next year's event will free for all those who attended today. Profits from the event will go towards a new minibus for the Bishopswood Special School and other local charities.?
