A CHRISTMAS fair raised about £2,000 for Benson Primary School’s outdoor classroom.

A CHRISTMAS fair raised about £2,000 for Benson Primary School’s outdoor classroom.

About 1,000 people visited the event at the parish hall on Saturday.

Attractions included Santa’s grotto, 40 gift and craft stalls and a tombola. Pupils Ella Harris, Alissa Harris and Evie Luscombe had their faces painted to play Santa’s wildcats and kept other children entertained while they queued up at the grotto.

There was also “hook a reinduck”, cake stalls and food from the Fat Fox Food Company. The fair was organised by the Friends of Benson School and the village youth club.

Friends chairwoman Jo Whittaker said: “It was huge fun thanks to a big effort by people in Benson pulling together. The big thing for us is getting the community involved and it really was a cracking afternoon. The money will mean so much to us. It’s a fantastic sum.”

Mrs Whittaker thanked all the visitors and the volunteers who helped out on the day.
