Mayor and Mayoress muck in at Mencap Christmas party

A RECORD 75 people attended the South Oxfordshire Mencap Christmas party at Harpsden village hall.

A RECORD 75 people attended the South Oxfordshire Mencap Christmas party at Harpsden village hall.

The guests were served sandwiches, cake and cups of tea and played games of pass the parcel and danced to music from a DJ.

The Mayor of Henley Lorraine Hillier and Mayoress Susan George attended and were joined by Father Christmas who handed out gifts. Paul Barrett, chairman of the Mencap group, said: “The party went extraordinarily well and was one of our best. Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.

“The Mayor and Mayoress were marvellous. They could not have been better at mucking in and helping.”

Councillor Hillier said: “It was a lovely do. They seemed to really enjoy it. I danced with them and we all did the Hokey Cokey.”
