BALLOON modelling and bingo were among the attractions at a quiz night to raise money for a school swimming pool in Wargrave.
More than 110 people attended the event at the Woodclyffe Hall, which was hosted by “Elsie Crumpet”, alias comedian Karen Dalton, and her “neighbour” Albert.
It was the latest in a series of events in aid of the Wargrave Lido Fund, which will pay for a 25m heated outdoor pool at the site of the new Robert Piggott infant and junior schools.
The quiz included catchphrase and singing rounds.
Fund-raiser Liz Deacon said: “It was great fun. The quiz had lots of funny rounds and comedy moments. People entered into the spirit, drinking, singing and doing funny things.
“A lot of money was raised, which is what it was all about. Elsie and Albert were brilliant at getting the crowd going. Elsie in particular was incredible at livening everyone up.”
The event raised about £1,300, taking the fund total to almost £25,000, an eighth of the target.
The previous fund-raiser, a sponsored swim at Polehampton swimming pool in September, raised more than £4,000.
Other events have included a bingo night, also hosted by Elsie, and an auction of a 2m high velvet chair. The chair, which was made specially by A Stitch in Twine in High Street, Wargrave, was on display during the Wargrave Village Festival and locals could bid for it.
In 2014 Wargrave resident and appeal founder Hannah Young raised more than £12,000 with a Channel swim.
