On Your Bike back for 10th year

DOZENS of children attended the launch of the 10th On Your Bike in Sonning Common on Wednesday.

DOZENS of children attended the launch of the 10th On Your Bike in Sonning Common on Wednesday.

Founder Penny Snowden, of Kennylands Road, was the guest speaker at the event at the village primary school. This year’s cycle ride will take place on April 24, starting and finishing at the primary school in Grove Road. The proceeds will go to the school, Sue Ryder and the cardiac care unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

Since it began On Your Bike has raised more than £30,000 for good causes, including almost £4,000 last year when 600 people took part. Mrs Snowden talked to pupils about the history and aims of the event while the children talked about their experiences of cycling.

The event, which starts at 10.30am, will offer six-, 12- or 20-mile routes as well as a supervised playground cycle for little ones. The routes use quiet roads, are marshalled at key junctions and offer halfway refreshments as well as technical, first aid and bike recovery support.

Entry is £5 beforehand or £7 on the day. The playground cycle costs £2.

Everyone who enters could win a bike from AW Cycles, of Caversham.
