AN appeal to buy housing for young people in Henley has reached £278,000.

The YMCA is trying to raise £300,000 towards the purchase of 31 flats at its Lawson Road complex.

It must raise £570,000 overall by March 31 next year with the rest hopefully coming from loans and grants. Julian Brookes, a trustee, said: “We’re getting there. We’ve got a few more irons in the fire which we are pursuing.

“We’re quietly confident that we’ll hit the target.”
