AN officer based at RAF Benson will run the London Marathon dressed as a stormtrooper.

Sq Ldr Jez Allinson, 40, became an internet hit after a video of him training by running around Benson dressed as the Star Wars character received more than two million views.

The film, called “When you’re late for your meeting with Darth Vader”, was shared more than 8,000 times on Facebook.

Sqn Ldr Allinson will be raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, a charity which grants the wishes of children and young people with life-threatening illnesses. He said: “There are so many charity events taking place that it can be hard to raise funds.

“I decided that I needed to raise the bar and completing the London Marathon dressed as a stormtrooper seemed like a pretty big challenge!

“Make A Star Wars Wish has been going incredibly well and it’s great to see how the local community has reacted to a stormtrooper running through rural villages.

“It’s hard to believe more than two million people watched a video of me running through Benson in the outfit.

“The original sculptor of the costume has even been in touch to wish me luck, which was amazing.”
