Julian Glasspole, managing director of Vehicle Weighing Solutions, of Reading, joined 50 waste industry professionals for a 200-mile charity cycle ride from Kent to Ghent in Belgium. Thirty-seven cyclists and nine support team members set of on May 12 an arrived three days later. They raised more than £40,000 charities including the Alzeihmer’s Society, Sue Ryder, Help for Heroes and Action for Children. Mr Glasspole, who lives in Shiplake, helped organise the event and rode the full distance and his company sponsored shirts and provided support staff. He said: “We are all blown away by the amount of money been raised. A big thank-you to the support teams who were awesome, mapping out the routes, keeping us safe and looking after the bikes. It was hard work at times, especially against sometimes strong head winds but also a huge amount of fun.” Mr Glasspole was raising money for Sue Ryder.
