STAFF at Tesco in Henley wore football shirts as part of a charity fund-raising day.

They were collecting money for Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation, which the supermarket chain is supporting nationally. There were bucket collections at the entrance to the store off Reading Road and children were handed balloons with a football design.

Shoppers could compete in a “spot the ball” competition for £1 and staff took part in an office sweepstake.

The event was themed to coincide with the European Championships, which start this weekend.

Ali Simmons, the store’s community champion, said: “It’s great fun and something a bit different. Everyone enjoyed taking part and we’d like to thank our customers for their support.”
