New rector finally appointed

A NEW rector has been appointed for Sonning Common, Peppard and Kidmore End.

A NEW rector has been appointed for Sonning Common, Peppard and Kidmore End.

Rev James Stickings will be inducted on September 28. The post was vacated a year ago when Rev Canon Graham Foulis Brown retired. Mr Stickings, 40, is currently curate at Holy Trinity Church in Headington Quarry, Oxford.

He was born in Canada and spent time in America and Germany when growing up before coming to the UK in his late teens.

Mr Stickings, who is married with a 13-year-old daughter, spent six years as a teacher at Bradfield College before training for ordination at Ripton College in Cuddesdon, near Oxford. He said: “I studied history at university and sang as a choral scholar in my college choir, which has given me a lasting love of church music. We are very excited to be moving to this lovely area.”

Meanwhile, associate priest Rev Susan Cooper held her final service at All Saints’ Church in Peppard on Sunday. She will take over as priest-in-charge in the parish of Purleigh, near Chelmsford, on October 4.

She said: “It’s a promotion and moves me closer to my family.

“I would like to thank all those whose paths I have crossed for their love and support. I feel they have given me far more then I have given them. I wish Rev James Stickings every blessing as he takes up his role as rector for the benefice.”
