Church appeal breaks £200,000 mark

A FUND-RAISING appeal for a Wargrave church has broken the £200,000 mark.

The 21st Century Project aims to raise £500,000 for renovation work at St Mary’s Church in Station Road, including a £350,000 annexe.

Fund-raising began in November and enough money has already been raised to pay for all the interior work at the church.

On Saturday, more than 90 people took part in a quiz night at Woodclyffe Hall in High Street, which raised about £1,200.Organisers are now focusing their efforts on the annexe and hope to obtain planning permission from Wokingham Borough Council by the autumn.

The extension, which will also need approval from English Heritage and the Oxford diocese, will provide a meeting place for community groups such as the WI, who currently use the nearby Hannen Room.
