Demolition of church hall nears with plan for homes
NEW plans have been drawn up to develop the site of Watlington church hall.
The hall, which is out of use because the roof is in a dangerous condition, would be demolished and replaced by two properties, a five- bedroom house and a new rectory for St Leonard’s Church in Pyrton Lane.
The house and the existing rectory in Hill Road on the other side of the town would then be sold to pay for an extension to the church.
In 2012, planning permission was granted for a £150,000 extension on the north side of the Grade II listed church with a kitchen, disabled toilet and baby changing unit. The parochial church council has been discussing the development of the site with the Diocese of Oxford for years.
A planning application is due to be submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council within the next two months.
