First-ever entry into regional finals

SONNING Common is awaiting the results of its first-ever entry into the regional Britain in Bloom finals.

Two judges from the Thames and Chilterns region visited the village on July 9 and were shown around by Chrissie Phillips-Tilbury, who runs the Village Gardeners, and members Jill Greenwood and Stan Rust.

Judges Pete Thompson and Brian Burton were taken on a two-hour tour of the village in the Fish community bus, where they viewed 31 sites.

They visited Millennium Field, the Herb Farm in Peppard Road, Red House Drive and the library in Grove Road where they spoke to children from Sonning Common Primary School.

The tour then followed a route through Lea Road, Westleigh Drive, Peppard Road, Kennylands Road and Woodlands Road where they visited the Hare and Hounds pub car park, before heading back to the Bay Trees café for tea.
