Village remembers its fallen with flower festival at church

EWELME paid tribute to villagers who fell during the First World War with a three-day flower festival.

St Mary’s Church hosted the event over the weekend to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the conflict.

Biographies of the 20 Ewelme men who died were on display.

A total of 108 men from the village served — 90 in the army and 18 in the navy.

Another eight men with a connection to the village, such as their birthplace, have also been identified but their names are not on any war memorial.
