Poverty but a lack of passion

Film: Jimmy’s Hall Certificate: (12A)

Director: Ken Loach

Starring: Barry Ward, Simone Kirby, Jim Norton, Andrew Scott

THIS film was mistakenly billed as Loach’s last but at 77, the British director with the social conscience shows no sign of stopping.

Loach’s style, from his first gritty docudrama about homelessness, the 1966 Cathy Come Home, is social realism. He comes from the old school tie gang of socialists who, alongside the likes of the late Tony Benn, may have enjoyed an elite education but nevertheless feels great sympathy with the working man.
