How bridge was reborn

A MAN has produced a documentary film about the rebuilding of Whitchurch Bridge.

Nick Brazil, 68, of Hardwick Road, Whitchurch, shot more than 18 hours of footage over the past year as workmen reinforced the underside with steel girders so the structure can cope with modern traffic levels.

The film, called A Bridge Is Reborn, will be up to 50 minutes long and will cover the entire refurbishment project from when the bridge was closed in October last year to when it re-opens to traffic today (Friday).

It will chronicle the setbacks, including the delays caused by flooding in January and February, which meant the original completion date of April had to be put back twice.

The Whitchurch Bridge Company allowed Mr Brazil on the site so he could record behind the scenes using a shoulder-mounted camera.
