IN what may be seen by many as a triumph of optimism over rheumatic joint pain, the large outdoor cinema screen is back in Caversham Court Gardens this weekend with a selection of cult movies.
Argo plays tonight (Friday) and tomorrow the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show is aired at 7.30pm.
This year, the company has also opened a new venue in Oxford, and will be screening movies on the city’s only rooftop cocktail bar on top of the Malmaison (formerly the city’s jail).
The new venue opens its doors for the first time next week, with a screening of Breakfast At Tiffany’s on Thursday, June 6.
The season continues in Oxford for six weeks, with showings of classics including Back To The Future, Top Gun, Amelie and Cinema Paradiso.
Cult Screens spokesman, Phil Cottle, said: “The films will all be projected in high definition on to a big screen and guests will listen through invidividual wireless headphones.
“With deckchairs or bean bags to sit on, fantastic cocktails, an amazing barbecue, and even a blanket to snuggle under, Oxford’s newest cinema experience promises to be a long way from the modern multiplex.
“The bar will be open throughout the evening, with the cinema opening at 8.45pm and films starting after sunset, at around 9.30pm.”
Meanwhile, back in Caversham, as well as the usual deckchairs and bean bags, there is a new bar run by Reading’s bar and music venue, Milk.
