Tom Ripley is a talented mimic, moocher, forger and all-around criminal improviser — but there’s more to Tom Ripley than even he can guess.

Alain Delon is perfectly cast in this vintage 1960 French movie.

One Chance(12A)

Coogan takes on a serious role as journalist Martin Sixsmith who accompanies an Irish pensioner in search of the toddler taken away from her by Catholic nuns. Based on a true story.

The usually rather silly Coogan is surprisingly good in this role. It’s a serious and somewhat depressing subject matter, but glimmers of his innate wit, combined with Dench’s superlative acting, make this an uplifting film.

Captain Phillips (12A)

Hanks plays the captain of an American container ship which is invaded by Somali pirates who kidnap him and demand a ransom. Based on a true story.

An intelligent, thrilling edge-of-your-seat drama made all the more emotionally-charged because it’s based on a true story. Hanks is truly awesome.

Philomena (12A)

Corden plays the lead in the true-life story of Paul Potts, the opera singer from Port Talbot whose talent goes largely unrecognised until he enters a TV talent show.

Corden is convincing in this tear-jerking rags-to-riches story.

The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists (U)

Young pirates in the dank streets of Victorian London help a young Charles Darwin on his way to becoming a world-famous scientist.

Wholesome family entertainment from Aardman Animations, who brought us Wallace And Gromit.
