CINEMAGOERS were treated to the first look at Showcase Reading’s new wall-to-wall screen as it was officially opened
CINEMAGOERS were treated to the first look at Showcase Reading’s new wall-to-wall screen as it was officially opened last week, writes Jamie Presland.
The cinema in Winnersh unveiled the new screen for guests including the Mayor of Wokingham, Parvinder Singh Batth, last Wednesday.
The giant screen, which fills the entire front wall of the cinema, was installed as part of a £10million project at Showcase cinemas across the country. This also saw the screening room installed with surround sound and luxury reclining seats.
Visitors were given a speech by Mark Barlow, general manager for Showcase’s UK theatres, before a demonstration of the new features and an advance viewing of Steven Spielberg’s Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies, starring Tom Hanks. Work at the cinema, which will be rebranded Showcase Cinema de Lux as part of the project, began in the summer and included the installation of the luxury seats, which can be adjusted using controls on the armrest, in all 14 screens in the complex.
Mr Barlow said: “We want to make sure that visiting Showcase is an unrivalled experience, customised to suit our guests’ preferences. From the ultimate comfort in seating to the immersive, uncompromising audio visuals that bring films to life, every aspect of this cinema is designed to be extraordinary.
“We are excited to take the Cinema de Lux concept to the next level for the cinemagoers of Reading and are sure they will be equally delighted with it.”
