How journalists brought the Thalidomide scandal to light

IN 1968 a team of investigative journalists at the Sunday Times, led by their editor Harold Evans, began a groundbreaking investigation into the Thalidomide scandal.

The probe by the paper’s Insight team became the basis of a long-running campaign to win justice for the drug’s victims that is today held up as one of the great achievements of 20th century journalism.

Reports have suggested that the Weinstein Company is planning to bring the story to the big screen, with Carey Mulligan in the role of Insight reporter Marjorie Wallace.

But on Tuesday (March 22), an award-winning documentary about the exposure of the scandal is coming to Henley’s Regal Picturehouse.

Directed and produced by Jacqui Morris and David Morris, Attacking the Devil is showing at 8.45pm.
