More than 30 visitors to Henley’s 60-Plus Social Club enjoyed a cream tea thanks to Tesco. Ali Simmons, community champion at the company’s Reading Road store, organised the event for the second time at the club in the Greys Road car park. The guests played bingo and were entertained by children from Sacred Heart Primary School choir. Visitor Gwen Strudley said: “It was nice. We’re all friends and we usually come on a Tuesday anyway.” Club co-manager Lynda Mortimer said: “It was just lovely. The age of people here means they need company and this brings them together for a bit of social chit-chat.” The club hopes to host another event before Christmas.
