ON June 15 president Adrienne Rance welcomed members to our annual garden party, a rather special one as it was a golden opportunity to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Members arrived at Gibstroude Farm to find it had been decorated with Union flags to welcome them in their finery, including lovely hats of various shades, colours and sizes.
Everyone enjoyed walking round the extensive grounds, which included stunning flowers and shrubs, decorative trees, a “secret garden”, chickens and ducks swimming on a pond filled with amazing grasses and irises.
It was an absolutely delightful, sunny afternoon for a walk, followed by a truly sumptuous tea provided by the committee.
There was a hat competition, which proved quite difficult for the judges but in the end the winner was Brenda Keast with a creation of a woven straw hat topped by a straw humming bird.
Di Bush was thanked by the committee for sharing her beautiful garden and given a plant voucher as a warm thank-you from all of us.
The next meeting will be held at Crazies Hill village hall on Wednesday, July 20 at 2.30pm, when Catherine Sampson will give a talk about the churches of Berkshire. All are welcome.
