FORMER village pharmacist Fred Freeman was the speaker at January’s meeting of Wargrave Local History Society.

Mr Freeman moved to Wargrave in 1969 and spent 29 years at the chemists in High Street. He moved the shop to Victoria Road in 1983, where he remained until his retirement in 1998. Among his customers were comedian Dave Allen, actor Robert Morley and singer Mary Hopkin.

The society’s next meeting will be at the pavilion in the recreation ground on February 11 (8pm), when Patsy Roynon will talk about the history of Loddon Drive. The annual meeting will be held on March 11. For more information, call Peter Delaney on 0118 940 3121.
