THE group enjoyed a very good illustrated talk from Rod Lawrence entitled “The Real Majorca” at the January meeting.
Rod concentrated on the wildlife areas in the north and east of the island, well away from the nightlife and tourist hot spots around Palma.
The talk, which was well attended, covered the diversity of both bird and plant life as well as some of the geology of the island.
For the January field trip the group visited Staines reservoir on a bright Sunday morning.
The plumage of the wildfowl glistened in the winter sun and excellent views were had of scaup, goldeneye and black-necked grebe, all birds which travel south to winter in Britain away from harsh northern climes.
