Walk in memory of tennis captain

A MAN from Benson is preparing to trek 200 miles in memory of a fellow tennis player.

Olly Barrett, 58, will spend 12 days walking from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire in August to raise funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The sponsored walk is in memory of Sabine Ludwig, who died of breast cancer last year. She was captain of the ladies’ team at Benson Tennis Club, where Mr Barrett is a member.

Mr Barrett said: “To have such a wonderful person so suddenly taken from us in the prime of her life was truly shocking. I just wanted to flag up breast cancer to people and to do something to make a difference.”

He will be retracing the steps of Alfred Wainwright, who wrote a book about the walk in 1973, and hopes to raise £4,000.
