MEMBERS were given a talk on the history of the Landmark Trust at the May meeting.
Caroline Stanford, who works for the trust in Shottesbrooke, near Maidenhead, spoke about its work renovating historic buildings around the country.
The trust was founded in 1965 by Sir John and Christian Smith and is funded entirely by donations. It buys and refurbishes rundown buildings of outstanding historical significance before renting them out as holiday homes.
Every building is fixed with authentic materials from the time it was built and furnished with books on local history as well as a folder detailing the work done by the trust.
The organisation currently owns 196 properties in England, Scotland and Wales as well as several in Italy and France.
